Retailers propose a new basis for calculating business rates.
With a revaluation of the business rates assesments still a distant hope the British Retail Consortium has suggested an alternative to the current system. Their proposal would give discounts in return for measures to increase employment and improve energy efficiency.
Whilst the proposal contains some interesting ideas it has not been universally well received. Smaller retalilers, arguably those most affected, will strugle to introduce such measures on single unit operations.
This particular report may not be the solution but it does appear that the continued delay to the revaluation is causing problems for businesses across the board.
